The first Presbyterian work in Bogalusa was begun during the winter of 1906-1907. The first record we have of any Presbyterian service in Bogalusa was when Mr. T.D. Stadler, a railroad agent who moved to Bogalusa from New Orleans, taught a men's Sunday School class in the dining room of the Colonial Hotel. When the hotel needed the space occupied by the Bible Class, Mr. Sadler had the class meet at his home on Avenue D.

The first regular meeting place for the Sunday School class and preaching service was the auditorium of the school building and was located on Avenue B in the block north of the present Post Office building. Reverend J.M. Williams, (now deceased) who was Pastor of the Presbyterian Church at Covington, Louisiana, was the first minister to hold preaching services for the Presbyterians in the new town.

When there were eighteen men and women interested in forming a church in Bogalusa a commission was sent from Presbytery in New Orleans to orgranize a Church. The meeting occurred on November 11, 1907. The commission of Presbytery consisted of W.T. Palmer, J.C. Barr, George Summey, J.G. Hardie, and Reverend J.M. Williams.

In the earlier months of its history, the church suffered much from changes incident to the depressed conditions prevailing in Bogalusa, but with the opening and revival of the great interests of that now flourishing community, the church took on new life.

Session

The session consists of the pastor and elders in active service. The pastor is the moderator of the Session. We have six active elders serving three-year terms. The session is responsible for the mission and government of the church.

It provides for Christian Education, evangelism, stewardship and worship so "that members may be better equipped to articulate their faith, to witness in word and deed to the saving grace of Jesus Christ, and to invite persons into a new life in Chris..." (Book of Order, G - 10.0102)
It receives members into the church. The session examines, ordains and installs elders and deacons. The session provides for the management of property, administration of church programs, and employment of non-ordained church staff.

Board of Deacons

We have six deacons serving three-year terms. The Board of Deacons elects the moderator and secretary. The pastor is an advisory member. The deacons are to minister to those in need within the church and in the community. They oversee maintenance of the property, collection of the offerings, and the stewardship campaign.
